Name that Technique: Layered Spotlight???

Monday's new technique on the SCS website was to "Name the Technique". My suggestion... Layered Spotlight. This is my submission for it as well as my March Christmas Card Challenge and Tuesday's Color Challenge.

Matthew 19:26 - VBS Fan

My sister needed my help with a project to teach her VBS students next week. Here is what I emailed to her. Hope she can use it.

1. Cut black card stock to 7" x 7" (our color of your choice)
2. Cut More Mustard card stock to 6 1/2" x 6 1/2" (or color of your choice)
3. Cut the More Mustard card stock into 4 equal pieces (3 1/4" x 3 1/4")
4. Add embossed images to the four squares
5. Attach the four 3 1/4" squares to the front of the 7" x 7" square.
6. Decorate and add embellishments to front as desired.
7. Staple or adhere handle to back of fan.
8. Decorate back as desired

Thinking of You

I am always at a loss when it comes to making masculine cards. When I saw Tuesday's color challenge, and today's sketch challenge, I decided to combine the two to make this masculine card... no ribbons, no bows, no butterflies.

Here's my submission for the SCS Sketch Challenge (SC336). I also combined it with Tuesday's Color Challenge (CC326: Pink Pirouette, Melon Mambo, Regal Rose) and Monday's Try a New Technique Challenge (TLC328: Decorate the Envie). I used SU!'s Both Way Blossoms as my stamp set (Retired).

Birthday Wishes

I still have remnants of Rich Razzleberry card stock from my previous posts and I am now trying to put together a Congratulations Graduate card for my niece who recently graduated from high school. One of her school colors is gray. and decided to CASE her card.

This card is quick, simple, and elegant and perfect for my SIL. His birthday was back in April and I only sent him a text message wishing him a happy birthday. He will be totally surprised to get this with a gift card enclosed. Hopefully he will take the hint and use the gift card to take our daughter to a really nice restaurant.

Today's SCS Technique Challenge was to decorate an envelope for a card you've made. I started this card a while back and needed the incentive to complete it. I embossed the flap and edged the envelope with the Flourish from SU!'s Elements of Style.

Courage

I love this stamp set and with Memorial Day coming up, I decided to participate in the SCS CAS119 Challenge and make a card using both the stamp set and the accompanying wheel.

My daughter and her husband are career military and I am keenly aware of the sacrifices made by our men and women keeping us safe.

A Journal for My Sister

Making Journals with my Cinch Machine is getting easier and easier. My sister asked me to make one for her. She wants to use it to take notes during Service on Sunday mornings and I decided to use this stamp set again... it seems very appropriate. My sister loved her new journal.

I stamped the flowers on all of the inside pages.

This is the back. I didn't decorate the back like I wanted to. I ran out of time and I wanted to give it to her this past Saturday when I saw her. The important thing is that she was very pleased with it.

Birthday Wishes for Mother

This is the card I made for my mother in celebration of her 91st birthday this past weekend. She had a nice surprise waiting for her in the envelope. She was surrounded by the love of her children, grands, great-grands, friends & relatives.

The day was beautiful so we pitched tents in her yard and cooked out... grilled hot dogs, fried fish, baked beans, coleslaw, grilled chicken, pasta salad, potato salad, Million Dollar Pies, Sock-it-to-me Cake, Cream Cheese Pound Cake, water, sodas, fresh lemonade... the list goes on and on and on...

Praying for You

This is a card I made based on a swap I received from Convention last year. The SU Demonstrator did not place her info on the back of the swap so I don't know how to credit her with the design.

I made this card for a dear friend who recently lost her husband.

Music Journal

I decided to make one last journal before placing my 'Cinch' back on the shelf. Now that I have the hang of it, I will use it a lot. This is the front of my journal. I love this sheet music scrapbook paper that I purchased at one of our local craft stores. I call this my 'Billie Holliday' stamp.

I work with a couple of choirs and I wanted a better way to keep my notes and music organized. This is the inside front of my journal. I clipped a small calendar to the inside front so that it is readily available as needed.

I have several tablets that I use but can never find. When I do find one, it's never the one used before. Hopefully I will be able to keep up with one much better because I will know at a glance that it is the one I need.

Christmas Card Journal

I can't believe it's March already. I was doing a little spring cleaning this morning and decided to use my 'Cinch' binding machine to bind my Christmas cards I received from friends and family this past Christmas. Normally I just stick them in a box somewhere and DH eventually tosses them when he thinks I am not aware. I think I will start displaying all the cards I receive like this from now on.

Cut 2-inch wide strips of card stock to the height of each card. Adhere to the folded end of your card. Score and fold down the center and punch holes using the hole punch of your choice. Bind as desired (ribbons, wire, rings)

Benefits of this Journal: fully decorated with your choice of cards to use as a cover; readily available and full of inspiration for making more Christmas cards.

Some of my cards are landscape, some portrait, depending on the style of the cards. I think this adds a bit of interest to the Journal. I also added scanned copies of photo Christmas cards to this Journal.

I wanted this to be a true depiction of all cards received. I am now in search of Anniversary and Christmas Cards from the past that DH has not tossed.

Scripture Journal

I have had my 'Cinch' Book Binding Machine for months and finally decided to use it. DH wanted a journal for his sermons and he wanted to be able to flip the pages quickly and easily. Spiral pages seemed to fit the bill. I used the retired SU "A Light Unto My Path" stamp set for my image and sentiment.
